Murray Gerkens


Adjunct Professor Murray Gerkens, LL.B (Melb), GradCertAustImmLaw (VU), Cert IV Training & Assessment (VU), is a Barrister and Solicitor practising in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania  and federal courts and tribunals throughout Australia. Murray accepts briefs from legal practitioners throughout the country. He is Special Counsel to FCG Legal.

Murray has a long history in public administration and the law and was, among other things, Senior Magistrate, Chair of the Victorian Police Discipline Board, Panel Chair of the Financial Ombudsman Service (Investments/Life Insurance/Superannuation), Chair of the Metropolitan Fire Brigades Appeals Tribunal, Chair of the Country Fire Authority Appeals Tribunal, Member of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal, Chair of the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Disciplinary Appeals Board, Director of Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (VACRO) and  Head of the Australian Refugee Review Tribunal.

Murray is presently Adjunct Professor of Law at Victoria University; lecturing in refugee law and merits & judicial review.  He is also a Life Member of Windana (Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation) and a Director of various onshore and offshore companies.

Murray is also the author or co-author of numerous legal publications including
