Janelle is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. She graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Indonesian and International Studies) double degree.
After completing her law degree, Janelle completed the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice at Victoria University and was subsequently registered as a migration agent. She then completed her practical legal training at the Australian National University. During this period, Janelle worked as a migration research assistant for Professor Susan Kneebone at Monash University. She dealt primarily with labour migration, human trafficking and marriage migration issues, particularly in the South-east Asian context.
While studying, Janelle gained legal experience as a volunteer at Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service and at Springvale Monash Legal Service in the South Eastern Migration Advice Scheme program. At Springvale Monash Legal Service, she worked primarily on split family humanitarian and family reunion visa applications.
After being admitted as a lawyer, Janelle began working at FCG Legal practicing primarily in immigration law. She has experience in assisting clients with a variety of complex migration matters, including the review of migration decisions to the courts and tribunals, and with issues associated with primary visa applications including health and character requirements. Janelle is also a co-author of the Australian Immigration Companion (6th and 7th editions).
